It’s finally that time of year when the leaves are changing, the breeze is cool and crisp and our local orchards are budding with apples that are ripe for the picking. Whether you want to munch on them right from the trees or bring them home to cook up an apple pie in your Quinn kitchen, now is the time to go apple picking in the area.

Don’t worry, we have you covered if you’re not sure what farms to check out to find that perfect apple. Grab the whole family this weekend and spend a few hours at some of these popular apple orchards!

Demarest Farms, located at 244 Wiermus Rd., Hillsdale which is a 45 minute drive from your Quinn apartment, offers more than 14 varieties of pick-your-own apples and is open on the weekends from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Here, every member of the family can enter the orchards for $5 per person, which includes a hayride, corn maze and a visit with the farm animals. Plus, visitors can purchase a bag for $9 which can hold all of the apples they could want.

Ripple Hill Farm, located at 181 Mountain Rd, Basking Ridge which is a 40 minute drive from your Quinn apartment, offers pick-your-own apples on Sundays through October as well as the opportunity to buy fresh produce of anything still in season.

In early September you can pick Macintosh and Gala, while Granny Smith and Stayman Winesaps are available later in the season.  They suggest coming out every few weeks to try all of the different varieties!
